13. Bambi (1942)
The death of Bambi’s mother is such a heartwrenching scene for many that it’s hard to forget there is so much more to this 1942 Disney masterpiece than that. Death is a part of life and Bambi by necessity does not shy away from that fact. But every other aspect of life is on display here as well; all the joy and beautiful moments of discovery that define a life as more than birth and death.

12. Coraline (2009)
Just the thought of The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick adapting a story by Neil Gaiman oozes potential. The resulting film Coraline sees that ooze coalesce into a splendidly horrific reality! This underappreciated stop-motion masterpiece is practically a horror film in which the titular young heroine enters a world where everyone she knows is replaced by duplicates with buttons for eyes!
Don’t let the disturbing aspects get in the way of your enjoyment, though. Coraline plays its cards judiciously and plays them very well.
