There’s nary a corner of the internet right now that isn’t chock-full of some kind of story pertaining to Netflix. Whether it’s a debate on the merits of theatrical viewings vs home viewings, being barred from Cannes or changing the way people consume media, they’re there. On a weekly basis they make the news by the sheer fact they’ve dropped another TV Show or movie they produced. Speaking of which, get ready to add MANIAC to that ever expanding exciting list of projects.

On Tuesday the streaming giant released a series of pictures for the upcoming sci-fi dark comedy. Most of the photos focus on the on-screen reunion of Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, who famously costarred in the 2007 hit Superbad. Not only are Hill & Stone starring in the show, but they’ll serve as co-producers. Rounding out the cast is Justin Theroux and the always wonderful Sally Field.

Behind the camera, things are just as intriguing. Cary Fukanaga (True Detective) brings his distinctive eye to Maniac, directing every episode, along with serving as co-writer. He’s assisted by Patrick Sommerville (The Bridge) who last worked with Justin Theroux on HBO’s The Leftovers. Together they’d be enough of a draw, but teaming them with the aforementioned actors makes this a can’t miss.

The 10-mini series is an adaptation of a popular Norwegian comedy from 2014 that also went by the same name. While extensive details surrounding the show are sparse, a minimal plot synopsis has been teased out: An institutionalized man dreams of a new life in a fantasy world”. Not a ton to go on , but coupled with the design of the sets calls to mind films like The Thirteenth Floor, World On A Wire and Avalon.

No release date for Maniac has been announced as of yet, only that it’s coming that it’s coming before the end of the year. Whenever it drops, it’s sure to be talked about by everyone. Further cementing Netflix’s hold on the public’s consciousness. Keep your eyes peeled and wits about you, until an official trailer drops. Although, that will likely just make people more ravenous for the show. What do you think? Are you curious about this show? Or is it going on the back burner because you have 75 other Netflix shows to watch first?
