The hit BBC One show Bodyguard will be distributed for American Netflix subscribers next week after setting viewership records in its initial run. The six-part series stars Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) as the experienced war veteran assigned to protect a controversial politician (Keeley Hawes) with plenty of enemies.
The series originally premiered on August 26, 2018. Netflix just released its own trailer for the series that is set to release on October 24. The stylish, intense political thriller is the perfect boost to Madden’s recent bid to become the next James Bond. The trailer shows Madden wearing clean suits and loading a small pistol, so Bodyguard might be a great audition tape.
Netflix’s acquisition of the series is not the first time a streaming service has picked up a BBC show for larger distribution. Earlier this year, Hulu secured the exclusive rights to Killing Eve, the brilliant BBC America drama starring Sandra Oh. Along with creating strong original series, these services have put a priority on acquiring rights to hit international programming. Even though Bodyguard is being released next Wednesday, the six episodes should make for a perfect weekend watch.
