Today we found out that Cary Elwes of ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘Saw’ fame will be heading down to Hawkins, Indiana; and joining him will be Jake Busey of ‘Starship Troopers’ and Gary Busey’s son fame. The announcement came from Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos and Variety gave some of the details regarding who actors will be portraying in the upcoming season of ‘Stranger Things’.
Elwes is set to play Mayor Kline, who described as “handsome, slick, and sleazy… Your classic ’80s politician – more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs.” Busey will be playing Bruce, “a journalist for the The Hawkins Post, with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.” Is it just me or are we all sick of seeing Jake Busey typecast as reporters? He can do so much more, maybe let him stretch and play a psychopath.
Elwes and Busey will be joining series regulars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Winona Ryder and David Harbour for Stranger Things Season 3. The Show will once against be produced by Shawn Levy and the Duffer Brothers. No word yet on a release date although it was announced that this season will move forward to 1985. So get excited for ‘Goonies’ and ‘Back to the Future’ references.
Truly, this is all awesome news. Cary Elwes fits perfectly in the Matthew Modine/Paul Raiser/Sean Astin mold of 80’s movie star returning as stunt casting. Busey on the other hand is underappreciated and I can’t wait to watch him and his scary face hunched over a typewriter searching for the truth of the upside down. Do you like these casting choices?
