Death, Drugs and Robbery : The Life and Crimes of Pokémon GO

Robbed at a PokéStop

Catch ’em all because they catch you. Criminals that is. Authorities in O’Fallon, Missouri this weekend wrote on Facebook that armed robbers are targeting Pokemon Go players.

“This morning at approximately 2 AM we responded to the report of an armed robbery near the intersection of Highway K and Feise Road. We were able to locate four suspects occupying a black BMW a short time later and recover a handgun. These suspects are suspected of multiple armed robberies both in St. Louis and St. Charles Counties. It is believed these suspects targeted their victims through the Pokemon Go smartphone application.”

No word yet if any of them had Pokemon tats.

Apparently the suspects, who were armed, used Pokémon GO to “add a beacon to a pokestop to lure more players. Apparently they were using the app to locate people standing around in the middle of a parking lot or whatever other location they were in.”

Sgt. Robert Kendall chimed in with this;

“We arrested all four suspects and recovered a handgun. We felt it important for our residents’ safety to share what we did know and remind them to be cognizant of their safety and surroundings.”

Be careful out there and be sure to hunt in packs, especially at night!

Pokémon GO Home Gym Invasions

Boon Sheridan found out his home is actually a Pokémon GO gym. What is a gym? If you are reading this article you probably already know but for those that don’t – that’s where players can go to train and learn how to fight Pokémon. Since the app launched, dozens of people at a time have been showing up at his house, playing the game at all hours of the night.

But he is making the best of an odd situation.

So you may be asking why not just change the location of the gym? Then people will stop showing up at your house bro. Well, Sheridan has tried to get the location of the gym changed, but as of now you can only report a “PokéStop” location if it poses physical danger to the players.

Boon has been sharing his experience on twitter @boonerang and he seems to be in good spirits in a situation that could be extremely annoying. . He even met the owner of the “gym” in the game.

Until the gym location changed, Sheridan has to deal with all the people and their cars showing up at all hours – but he has probably gained a few followers on twitter because of it too.
