Although Harry Potter author JK Rowling has stated that her new play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, would be the final adventure for everybody’s favorite wizard, it has recently been reported that a film version may be on the horizon. It’s rumored that Warner is actively looking to turn the hit stage production into a movie, with none other than Daniel Radcliffe himself returning as Harry.
As reported by the New York Daily News, Warner is working on securing the film rights to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and the studio is keen to cast 27-year-old Radcliffe to play the adult version of his former character. “Warner is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry,” the paper’s source stated. “However, he has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon–and that could be until he hits 40.”
While this news has yet to be confirmed by Warner, the Potter franchise has been so successful that it would be hard to believe that they would let the opportunity pass them by. They already have the first Wizarding World spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them due in November, with a sequel already scheduled for 2018.
Radcliffe himself has remained open to the possibility of returning to the role that made him a star. In June, he revealed to Radio Times: “It would depend on the script. The circumstances would have to be pretty extraordinary. But then I am sure Harrison Ford said that with Han Solo and look what happened there!”
“So I am saying, ‘No,’ for now, but leaving room to backtrack in the future.”
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is currently playing in London, while Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is released on November 18, 2016.
