We almost got what we’ve always wanted (but didn’t realize it) when actors Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe nearly got into a boxing ring to duke it out. Unfortunately, the Lord of the Rings actor thought that it might not be such a good idea to go head-to-head with the Harry Potter headliner.
The topic came up on Conan last night, while Wood was discussing how he and Radcliffe even to this day get mistaken for one another. This comes as no surprise, judging by this wildly popular GIF.
Wood stated that during the Fantastic Fest film festival (of which he attends every year) that there is a debate event where two people go back and forth on topics –inside a literal boxing ring– and then actually duke it out.
“So, a proper debate, and then it’s fisticuffs,” said Wood. But a Frodo vs. Potter fight was sadly not meant to be.
“For the longest time, they wanted to get Daniel Radcliffe and I to do it–and it almost became a thing this year. I ultimately squashed it, because I was like, ‘I don’t want to fight this guy.’ I don’t want the culmination of the fact that we look alike or somehow get mistaken for each other to end up being in a boxing ring,” Wood said. “So it didn’t end up happening. Much to the disappointment of a lot of people.”
Conan’s co-host Andy Richter thinks Wood, as Frodo, would win in a fight, considering swords are real and magic is “bullshit”.
