The Trailer For ‘Stuber’ Looks Like The Perfect Buddy Comedy

It would appear that we’re in the middle of Dave Bautista’s coming out party. Not that the wrestler-turned-actor hasn’t been around for several years, but he’s clearly entering the “peak popularity” portion of his career. We couldn’t be happier about that, here at the site, as the guy is charismatic both on the screen and off it. Last week saw the premiere of the trailer for his family friendly film, My Spy. Friday he was announced as the lead in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Not to be outdone, he then battled it out at WrestleMania on Sunday. Now, to kick off this week, a trailer for his hotly anticipated summer comedy, Stuber, with Kumail Nanjiani just dropped. You really should take a look at it.

I think the only correct response to this trailer is “yes, please put this in front of my eyes immediately!” There are a number of buddy comedies every year, yet they don’t normally look as good as this one does. Things appear to go off the rails quite quickly and that’s all the more reason to get excited. If that gun gag at the end is any indication, Stuber may be in the running for “best comedy of the year”. We’re hoping that’s the case.

Here’s the official synopsis, in case you were too busy laughing at the above, to follow along:

“When a mild-mannered Uber driver named Stu (Kumail Nanjiani) picks up a passenger (Dave Bautista) who turns out to be a cop hot on the trail of a brutal killer, he’s thrust into a harrowing ordeal where he desperately tries to hold onto his wits, his life and his five-star rating.”

Should there be any justice in the world, Stuber will officially make Bautista and Nanjiani household names. At the very least, it will lead to them getting more high profile leading roles. We’ll have a clearer indication, when the film opens later this summer, on July 19.
