7. Inside Out (2015)
A little girl’s emotions – Sadness, Joy, Fear, Anger, and Disgust are personified as beings running the control room of her mind. It sounds trippy and bizarre, but Disney/Pixar took the (literally) heady concept and turned it into a touching tale of growing up and learning to live with difficult feelings in a difficult world.
Pixar have consistently proven that they know how to address life’s most complicated moments in simple expressions of beauty and this film is no exception.
6. UP (2009)
Speaking of complicated moments, Up begins with that unforgettable montage of Carl and Ellie’s entire beautiful, tragic life and only gets better from there. A broken man sets out to fulfill his childhood dream in defiance of the world closing in around him, only to find himself in a fantastic world where dogs talk, mythical birds exist, and heroes long idolized are not what they seem.
Up is that rare movie that manages to be a hilarious comedy and a tearjerker all at the same time, and is worth watching for anyone at any stage of their life.
