New Star Wars: Rogue One Poster Suggests a Darker Tone

Last week, it was revealed that the final trailer for the upcoming Star Wars spinoff film Rogue One will be released at the end of this month.  Ahead of this, a dramatic new poster has just arrived. It was revealed at Comic Con Russia in Moscow–check it out below, courtesy of Star Wars News Net:

The poster does a fantastic job of emphasizing the “war movie” tone that the filmmakers have mentioned over the past year.  Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy has described that the film “goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective.”

Last month, Disney CEO Bob Iger attempted to lower expectations in the box office potential of Rogue One.  “We never felt it would do the level that Force Awakens did,” Iger stated during an investor conference. “[But] the level of interest is as high as it was for Force Awakens.”

The Disney boss went on to state that he and Kennedy had mapped out the plans for the franchise all the way into 2020.  This includes Episode VIII and IX, a Han Solo spinoff film, and a third spinoff for which a writer has been hired to begin working on.

“We have movies in development for Star Wars ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond,” he said. “So, [Kennedy’s] not just making a Star Wars movie, she’s making a Star Wars universe.”

Two trailers for Rogue One have appeared in the past couple of months, with the next trailer expected to accompany Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which hits cinemas internationally on October 28 and the US on November 4.
