One of the perks Disney got in having the 20th Century Fox merger go through when it did, was having a bevy of films to release and capitalize on. One of those happens to be Spies In Disguise. A film that features Will Smith as a James Bond type, and Tom Holland as sort of newbie “Q”. It looks fun enough, until the central hook rears its head and things get…well, weird. Take a look at this new trailer, to see what we mean.

To go along with the footage, we’ve got your always handy-dandy official synopsis:

“Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is … not. But when events take an unexpected turn, this unlikely duo are forced to team up for the ultimate mission that will require an almost impossible disguise – transforming Lance into the brave, fierce, majestic… pigeon.Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril.”

As bare-bones as this glimpse is, there seems to be a bit of good-natured goofiness at work. The mere idea of Will Smith as a pigeon has to be what sold executives on the concept. There’s no indication as to the larger story of the film, though. How a pigeon can effectively take down bad guys, is a head-scratcher. Not to mention, even though he loses all his clothes, there’s a bow tie imprint, on his crest. It’ll probably rest of Walter’s loose spaghetti noodle shoulders, to save the day. That’ll probably go over entirely without a hitch.

What do you make of the trailer, our finely tuned agents? Is it colorful enough and goofy enough for your kiddos? Do you wonder why Holland’s character look nothing like him, but Lance looks a bit like Smith? Sound off in our super encrypted comment section below. Besides the main two stars, the movie features a rather impressive cast. Karen Gillan, Masi Oka, Ben Mendelsohn and Rashida Jones all lend their vocal skills here. Then there’s DJ Khaled, who manages to complete this game of “one of these things is not like the other). Even with his involvement, this could still be a bit of fun. Spies In Disguise flies into theaters, on Christmas Day. Till then, here’s the film’s simple, but cute official poster.
