After the Super Bowl we got our first look at the newest adventure that awaits us in a galaxy far, far away. Now, we have the official trailer for the newest Ron Howard film and entry into the Lucasfilm canon, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘. The trailer feels very similar to the teaser to me, which is to say “safe bordering on boring”. The central crux of the story seems to be Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo going on a space heist in a shiny new Millennium Falcon. This is admittedly an awesome premise for a Star Wars movie so it’s a little puzzling why nothing about this project has excited me yet. I am a big Ron Howard fan and you everyone on earth is bought in on Donald Glover playing Lando Calrissian. If you want to watch the trailer for yourself, check out the video below.
Maybe my reasoning for being so hesitant to get on board with this is the now infamous firing of Phil Miller and Chris Lord as directors and the crew allegedly cheering when they heard the news. There was also the rumors of Ehrenreich needing acting lessons. Finally, the concerning reports that Ron Howard has reshot 80% of a movie that was supposedly weeks away from wrapping production. All of this innuendo suggest a film that’s destined to be a disaster. However, there were countless reports about a what a mess ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was shaping up to be, so you never really know what the film will be until you see it. Here’s to hoping this isn’t Kathleen Kennedy & Co.’s first miss.
‘Solo: A Star Wars Story is directed by Ron Howard. Original Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will remain on the project as executive producers. The film is being written by Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan and will star Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Joonas Suotamo & Paul Bettany.
Solo: A Star Wars Story and see it in theaters May 25.
