Each time we catch a new glimpse of the upcoming Ready Player One film, it comes jam-packed with new bits of fantastic nostalgia. Whether it’s the Iron Giant, Back to the Future’s DeLorean, or all the glory of King Kong and a Tyrannosaurus Rex wreaking havoc, the Steven Spielberg film is packed with eye candy that’s sure to please.
The newest clip takes the idea to an entirely new level, thanks in no small part to it’s featured song. The new teaser is set to a cover of “Pure Imagination,” originally performed by Gene Wilder in the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
The song is a perfect way of describing a movie like Ready Player One, which is largely set in a virtual world filled with famous and beloved characters and moments from a vast pop culture landscape, including films, TV, and video games.
Diving further into the new teaser we see Halo’s Master Chief, Super Mario Kart references, and even an appearance from Hello Kitty. Ready Player One stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, and Simon Pegg and hits theaters this March 29th.
