What’s better than one of the best young actors of his generation signing up for a new movie? When that movie just so happens to be directed by another an older actor, thought to be the best of his generation. All that to say Michael B. Jordan is currently in talks to star in an upcoming film to be directed by none other than Denzel Washington. Deadline broke the scoop that the two would be working together on an adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Dana Canedy’s bestselling book, Journal For Jordan.
Here’s what the memoir’s about, in case you aren’t familiar:
“The 2008 book tells of Canedy’s love affair with First Sgt. Charles Monroe King, who kept a journal of life lessons for their newborn son Jordan while deployed overseas. He was killed in Iraq in 2006 when Jordan was 7 months old, but his spirit lives on in his writings to Dana and Jordan.”
Pencil this one in for award season, whenever it comes out, as this film has a chance to pick up a bunch of nominations, in the future. Sweetening the pot even further, is news that Oscar Nominated Mudbound writer Virgil Williams, will be handling the script. The film marks Washington’s follow up top his directorial debut, Fences, which racked up 4 nominations, back in 2017. Out of those it only walked away with one win, in the form of Viola Davis’ stunning supporting role. Jordan and Washington are going all in on Journal For Jordan, by both producing through their respective companies, Outlier Society and Escape Artists.
Are you excited the prospect of these two powerhouses teaming up? Have you read the memoir that’s being transferred to the screen? How many times do you expect to tear up during the film? Be sure to let us know in the comments. No production start date or eyed release have been announced as of yet. Outside of Jordan possibly joining up, nothing else is know. As soon as more news becomes available, we’ll report on it, immediately.
