‘Hold The Dark’ Trailer Looks Savage

Netflix has had a spotty record this year when it comes to original movies. Last week’s ‘Roma’ Trailer and today’s first look at ‘Hold the Dark’ suggest that their record may be improving. The film stars Jeffrey Wright in a “gripping psychological thriller [that] unfolds in the treacherous Alaskan wilderness when a retired wolf expert is summoned to investigate a child’s disappearance.” Take a look at the haunting trailer for yourself:

There really is nothing better than a good Hans Zimmer-esque score in a trailer. It also helps that everyone in this looks fantastic. Jeffrey Wright seems as great as ever as an animal tracker who cannot understand the townspeople around him. I love how it suggests a mix of ‘Wind River’ or ‘Insomnia’ before looking like it will go full ‘True Detective’. The looks like a worth follow-up from the director of ‘Green Room’ and ‘Blue Ruin’.

Hold the Dark’ is the newest film from director Jeremy Saulnier and writer Macon Blair. Blair will also have a supporting role in the film; making it his 3rd collaboration with Saulnier. Joining Blair and Wright in the cast are Riley Keough, Alexander Skarsgard & James Badge Dale. Netflix seems like a good home for this property as they’re known for both Saulnier and Blair’s earlier films. I know ‘Blue Ruin’ wasn’t technically a Netflix film, but I feel that’s how most people first experienced it. ‘Hold the Dark‘ will premier at TIFF on September 12, 2018 before arriving on Netflix on September 28, 2018.
