Class is now in session and you WILL respect the Vice Principals, even if they don’t respect you. The new series Vice Principals debuted on HBO last night and it did not disappoint. In fact I would say it was dope, super dope. It reunites writing partners Danny McBride and Jody Hill, who also created Eastbound & Down.
Vice Principals tells the story of Lincoln High School, which is run mainly by the two vice principals of the school Neal Gamby (Danny McBride) and Lee Russel (Walton Gossins). They are joined by Gale (Shea Wingham), Ray Liptrapp (Busy Phillips) and Dr. Belinda Brown ( Da`Vine Joy Randolph). Together they unite to run a school full of hooligans.
Who are the Vice Principals taking over for? Principal Bill Murray! Talk about big shoes to fill. Rumor has it Will Ferrell also has a small part in the series.
Fans of Eastbound & Down will love this hilarious foul-mouth comedy that falls in line with a handful of comedies that pull the curtain back on high school faculty. Teachers (TV Land) and Those Who Can’t (Tru TV) also tackled comedy in the classroom this past spring. But Vice Principals brings a whole new venom to the hallowed halls of high school this Summer / Fall.
Danny McBride and Walton Goggins are in a competition of who can insult the other more during any given scene. McBride is definitely channeling his inner Kenny Powers and I love every minute of it.
I give the series premiere an A for Effort and an F for F*CK YEAH! I can’t wait for episode two and more shenanigans. “Pants up grades up.”
Catch every new episode each Sunday on HBO.
