The 2nd Chapter in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s It has been green lit, and we’ve learned two more well known and respected actors may potentially be a part of it. Variety has reported that Bill Hader (Documentary Now!, SNL) and James McAvoy (Split, X-Men:First Class) are currently in discussions to star in the upcoming sequel.
In 2017’s previous installment of It, a young group of children are terrorized by a murderous and horrifying clown. In the sequel, those who survived the first experience return to the town of Derry, Maine as adults to face the monster once again. McAvoy is in talks to play Bill (portrayed by Jaeden Lieberher in the original), with Hader eyeing the part of Finn Wolfhard’s comedic Richie Tozier.
Jessica Chastain had already been confirmed to play the adult version of Beverly. Andy Muschietti, director of the first It, told Variety in 2017 that he wanted to bring all the original actors back for a series of flashback sequences, but it remains to be seen if this will in fact happen.
Muschietti is set to return to direct the It sequel, with Bill Skarsgard playing the iconic Pennywise once again. The sequel is scheduled to start shooting this summer, ahead of its projected September 6, 2019 release date. The original was a huge hit, making more than $700 million worldwide.
