The first feature film from Gunpowder & Sky’s sci-fi label, DUST is the sci-fi western, PROSPECT. Starring Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”), Sophie Thatcher (“The Exorcist”) and Jay Duplass (“Transparent”), will premiere on November 2nd, exclusively in Regal theaters nationwide.

With this news comes a official theatrical poster and trailer cut for PROSPECT. I was lucky enough to catch this at SXSW and it was by far one of my favorite films I saw during the festival. A true commitment by indie filmmakers along with the cast and crew brought to life something fun and unique for Science Fiction lovers that also crosses over into a Western.

Here is more from the official press release:

Explore uncharted territory on the hunt for intergalactic treasures with the premiere of PROSPECT, launching November 2nd exclusively in Regal theaters nationwide from Gunpowder & Sky’s sci-fi label DUST. PROSPECT will digitally premiere on SingularDTV’s blockchain-enabled VOD platform in 2019 following its theatrical run, making a first-of-its-kind global digital launch.

Written and directed by Zeek Earl and Christopher Caldwell (In The Pines, Redemption, Man), PROSPECT, hailed as the “best indie science fiction movie since ‘Moon’”, (/Film) stars  Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”, “Narcos”), Sophie Thatcher (“The Exorcist”) and Jay Duplass (“Transparent”). Thatcher and Duplass portray Cee and Damon, a father-daughter following their path through the galaxy in search of the ultimate payday, and the two quickly fall prey to unknown terrain and dangerous encounters as their mission turns deadly. PROSPECT also features Andre Royo (The Spectacular Now), Sheila Vand (Argo) and Anwan Glover (“The Wire”).

All aspects of the retro-futuristic sci-fi western – from aesthetic to sound – were intentional and capture the essence of a period piece. With medieval era instruments used for the soundtrack, vintage Russian lenses rehoused for shooting and costumes inspired by actual space travel, PROSPECT has a historical feel and is referred to as “what the standalone ‘Star Wars’ movies should feel like”. (Variety)

“Zeek and Chris’ visual feel and tone achieved in Prospect is reminiscent of both the wonderfully grounded aesthetic of the first Star Wars movie, as well as the gritty up-close feel of a cool Clint Eastwood western,” said Floris Bauer, Co-founder and President. “A new vision in science fiction from breakthrough talent, in a novel partnership with SingularDTV, is the perfect first film release of our DUST label”.
