Stan Lee’s cameos have become an absolute necessity in Marvel’s cinematic universe, and we’re happy to report that there are indeed plenty more to come. It has been revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has finished film several upcoming cameo scenes featuring everyone’s favorite comic book icon.
Following EW‘s report that Gunn has directed four brand new cameos, (including the one featured in Doctor Strange) the director took to Facebook to speak about the experience.
“It was definitely one of the most fun times I’ve ever had on set,” he wrote. “There are few people in this world I love and admire more and have more fun with than Stan Lee. Although, to be honest, I think I only did THREE cameos–one was shot by someone else. And my third probably isn’t what you think it is.”
“If you’ve seen the Doctor Strange cameo, it was one of MANY versions I shot on the day, and [Doctor Strange director] Scott Derrickson chose the final one. If I’m writing for Stan, why give him one line when I can give him a thousand? I just kept throwing lines at him one after the other, until we were all doubled over with laughter.
“Someday, after you’ve seen the movie, maybe Marvel Studios will let me share some of those with you.“
In September, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige spoke out about the process of filming Lee’s appearances. “We do not shoot random ones,” he stated, via Collider. “They’re always specific. A couple of months ago in Atlanta, [Lee] flew down and we shot four in one day–for four various projects.”
“They’re all awesome! They’re all totally different. And he was unbelievable. He was on fire. He came in, he sat here, he stood there, he stood in this window, and then he went home.“
In other news about the superhero pioneer, it was recently reported that Lee’s life story is being developed into a full on action/adventure movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has bought his life rights. It was also reported that the producers of Twilight and the upcoming Power Rangers film are overseeing the project.
The site goes on to report that rather than turn Lee’s life story into a straight biopic, the studio is looking to adapt it into a period action adventure, with the tone of Kingsman: The Secret Service or “Roger Moore’s 007.”
