Captain Marvel Movie Casts Jude Law In A Major Role

Marvel Studios

More news today from camp Captain Marvel.  The film, which is slated to arrive just before the fourth Avengers movie, has cast its male lead.  Jude Law will be joining Brie Larson in Marvel’s first female-centric superhero film.

This report comes from Variety, stating that the actor is currently in negotiations to play the role of Dr. Walter Lawson, knwon by comic book fans as Mar-Vell.  In the comics Mar-Vell was a member of an alien race known as the Kree and a mentor of Carol Danvers, who becomes Captain Marvel in the film.  Mar-Vell was also the original Captain Marvel.  Given that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already confirmed that a war between the Kree and the Skrulls– yet another alien race in the Marvel universe–will serve as part of the movie’s inspiration, Mar-Vell’s alien lineage will no doubt be included in the film.

In addition to Law and Larson, Captain Marvel will also star Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the movie’s main villain.  Samuel L. Jackson will return once again to reprise his role as Nick Fury in the film, which will be set in the 1990s. Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.
