Don’t Fail This City – Possibilities for the Fifth Season of Arrow

5) Time to Make Arrow Great Again

It’s hard to deny that the introduction of magic has hurt Arrow. Well-known villain Ra’s al-Ghul with his Lazarus Pit was one thing, but when magical idols hit the table in season 4 things began to go off the rails. Arrow started out as a high-tech hero battling high-tech corporate crime but as the Arrow-verse shows have become increasingly filled with magic, meta-humans, and time travel it has felt like the original show has been struggling to play keep-up with its own children and doing it badly. Season 5 is rumored to be addressing this, taking the show back to what made it great in its first two seasons. The casting The Walking Dead’s Chad Coleman as a challenger to the Arrow’s vigilante reign seems promising. Likewise, more screen time for up-and-coming hero Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) as part of a new crop of Team Arrow freshmen is a can’t-go-wrong move. Then there’s the issue of a mysterious masked figure glimpsed briefly in the Comic Con Season 5 trailer. It definitely gives the show a sense of mystery and that is something it has lacked for some time.

Arrow is coming off two consecutive seasons that were poorly received by critics and some fans. The show needs to bring its A-game in season 5 to remain relevant in the field it helped create. The pieces are all there, however. Now it just remains to be seen how they will put them all together.
