About two months ago we got a first trailer for Angel Has Fallen, the latest in the “Mike Banning saga”. First there was Olympus Has Fallen. Then, London Has Fallen. It’s an unlikely trilogy, but one that succeeds on the capable shoulders of Gerard Butler. In a day where John Wick rules the cineplex, Butler’s VOD level counterpart is choosing a great time to make a return. Better Yet, he’s bringing Nick Nolte along for the ride! Today we’re lucky enough to get a second trailer, that provides a slightly different look at the film. Take a peek.
You like official synopses? Well, we’ve got one for you, in case you couldn’t follow the above:
When there is an assassination attempt on U.S. President Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman), his trusted confidant, Secret Service Agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler), is wrongfully accused and taken into custody. After escaping from capture, he becomes a man on the run and must evade his own agency and outsmart the FBI in order to find the real threat to the President. Desperate to uncover the truth, Banning turns to unlikely allies to help clear his name, keep his family from harm and save the country from imminent danger.
Things appear slightly cheaper this go around, but its hard to ignore that things looks solid when they blow up. Plus, more than most actors in his shoes, Butler gives these films his all. Even when they don’t necessarily deserve it. There’s a chance parring elements back could also help over all. The first film was mostly set inside the White House, and having basically one setting worked out well. There’s also the benefit of seeing Danny Huston as an ex-military (they usually all are) villain in 2019. That much guarantees Angel Has Fallen has at least your dad’s attention. The other big change here is behind the camera. Ric Roman Waugh takes over the reigns from Babak Najafi, who took over for Antoine Fuqua. With Waugh’s background in stunts, we think the movie is in good hands.
Did you like the new trailer? Are you a fan of the series in general? Do you think that Banning in his advancing age isn’t necessarily going to stab people in the head left and right? The man has a lack of knives in the trailer. Hopefully he hasn’t given up taking out bad guys in that manner, for just more conventional means. If you’re equal saddened by this possible outcome, the comments section is open to you. For everyone else, make sure to circle August 23 on your calendars, when Angel Has Fallen explodes into theaters. There’s literally nothing else coming out that weekend (My Spy jumped to 2020), so it better be number one at the box office. Should that happen, maybe next time they’ll send him to the moon.
