USA Network in partnership with indie studio Blumhouse Productions and Universal Cable Productions brought THE PURGE to San Diego Comic-Con in a big way! Beginning on Thursday, July 19, USA Network opened the doors of America’s first “Purge City” store, an immersive experience in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp District, to the public. Today Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions and producer of “The Purge” film franchise and the all-new series, and James DeMonaco, franchise creator and executive producer of “The Purge” films and THE PURGE series, stopped by the one-stop shop “Purge City” to stock up on Purge night essentials and see the activation brought to life.
Later that day, Blum and DeMonaco joined the cast and creators of the blockbuster film franchise and upcoming television series for a special panel that gave an exclusive inside look into how THE PURGE is expanding its universe – highlighting the hit new feature film “The First Purge,” which is currently in theaters, as well as the upcoming television series, which will debut on USA Network on Tuesday, September 4 at 10/9c.
During the panel we got a little bit more insight into some the character from the series and specifically more information about Fiona Dourif’s character.
“I am a benevolent passionate woman of faith that helps my disciples on purge night. I basically help kill teenagers.” said Dourif.
ABOUT THE FOOTAGE:
The clip we saw during the panel helped fill in the gaps as to what exactly that meant. Her character is the leader of what appears to be a cult like church group that hop on a baby blue school bus on Purge night dressed in matching baby blue hooded robes. We see Dourif’s character with a glimmer of madness in her eyes as she calmly and passionately speaks to her disciples. “We help the sinners release their sins.” She then walks to the back of the bus with her hands hover above each teenagers head as if to play a demented version of duck, duck, goose before picking the chosen one to leave the bus. Leading them to the field just outside where 3 people are waiting in creepy masks standing in the lights from pickup trucks to almost blind the forthcoming victim, before killing them.
This character has already me sold enough to check out the series and I am not even really a fan of the film franchise.
