SDCC 2018: The Monsters Have Been Unleashed in the New ‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’ Trailer

Godzilla King of Monsters
Legendary / Warner Brothers

Hold on to your butts because the new trailer for ‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’ just dropped and we have monsters coming out of every crack and cranny of the ocean. The next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse: “Godzilla II: King of the Monsters,” an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history.

This looks massive. It may be silly, but it’s awesome seeing them putting together a such a big and serious movie, then adding in the likes of Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. The kind of combination that’s sure to delight the likes of kids and parents alike. There’s so much going on this trailer that it’s hard to make a ton of sense of it, the official synopsis is also rather terse:

“Humanity’s existence hangs in the balance when the mighty Godzilla collides with Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed monster King Ghidorah.”

While that sounds all good and decent, it’ll be interesting to see how it all connects to together. You’ve got Vera Farmiga telling everybody that the Titans are the only hope in saving mankind, even though that may be of the “destroy the world, to save it” variety. Speaking of Farmiga, this cast is stacked with a ton of obvious and curious actors. Even Ken Watanabe makes a return!

Does this footage excite anyone else? Who are your favorite of the Toho monsters? Do you think this film will be nothing but cool action & hollow story? How it all shakes out remains to be seen (and how or if it ends up connecting to the long proposed Godzilla vs King Kong film), but we’re excited to find out when Godzilla: King of the Monsters wrecks a path leading to theaters on May 31st, 2019Godzilla King of Monsters
ABOUT THE FILM:
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Godzilla and friends (that should be the name of the movie!?) stomps into theaters May 30, 2019!
