In a move we all saw coming, Netflix announced today that Stranger Things has been renewed for a second season and will be returning to the streaming service in 2017. Same cast of characters with a new storyline taking place in the Fall of 1984. A year after the original events took place in Hawkins, Indiana. Having it take place in the Fall sets up some sweet Halloween action!
Season 2 Episode Names:
- MadMax
- The Boy Who Came Back to Life
- The Pumpkin Patch
- The Palace
- The Storm
- The Pollywog
- The Secret Cabin
- The Brain
- The Lost Brother
Season 2 appears to have 9 episodes (listed above) one more than the inaugural season. The Duffer Brothers are once again on board for season 2 which left us with a few cliffhangers to ponder. The brothers were quoted saying season two will be “darker and weirder” which has me on the edge of my seat wanting more. A few burning questions I have include what happened to Eleven’s mother? For that matter what happened to Eleven? Is she trapped in the Upside Down or did he implode never to be heard or seen from again. Lastly what is really going on with Will? He clearly doesn’t seem like himself.
Assuming the titles in the teaser announcement refer to episode names we have a few things to chew on already. The Boy Who Came Back to Life is probably referring to Will but it could be something else entirely. What in the world does Mad Max mean? The Secret Cabin? Maybe another reference referring to Evil Dead? The first season had so many callbacks to some of our favorite horror and sci-fi shows, what’s to say season 2 won’t have just as many?
Lastly, The Lost Brother appears to be the name for episode 9. Already hinting at a possible cliffhanger leading into a setup for Season 3. So much to look forward to!
Netflix doesn’t release viewership figures, but a third-party report said the ’80s-set Stranger Things had 14.07 million viewers aged 18-49 in its first 35 days. The only Netflix programs that paced ahead that were Fuller House Season 1 and Season 4 of Orange is the New Black.
