Is Resident Evil: The Final Chapter Truly the Final Film in the Franchise?

Sony Pictures

Sony released the official trailer for the final chapter in the Resident Evil franchise and it is action-packed! The opening scene waste no time foreshadowing the end is near as it shows zombies hanging from a grimy Raccoon City sign, home of the evil Umbrella Corporation panning to a city that has been ravaged by catastrophe.

Will this truly be the end? Sony says it will – but many franchises in the past that we thought were dead came back to life through reboots, re-imagining or straight up sequels. Lionsgate’s SAW franchise is the latest example of that with a slew of other properties like; Evil Dead, Scream, Friday the 13th and many more to jump on the bandwagon in the last year. That’s just to name a few.

I would be shocked if we don’t see a new Resident Evil story rise out of the ashes with new characters and a new plot as the video game continues to evolve and release more titles. Until then enjoy the new trailer from the presumed final chapter.

SYNOPSIS: Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.
