Blair Witch captivated audiences at Sundance in 1999 being marketed as a real tape that was found of 3 college students who went missing in the woods. It was a brilliant marketing plan that most people, including myself thought could never be pulled off again but we were proven wrong. It also invented what we now know as the ‘found footage’ genre.
In July of 2016 the original filmmakers along with new masters of horror Simon Barrett and Adam Winged revealed to fans at a surprising screening at San Diego Comic-Con that the previously title The Woods, was actually a new Blair Witch film. The crow went bonkers and the rest is history!
They pulled off the wool over our eyes once again just like they did in 1999 when the original Blair Witch was released.
Now a new group of college students are on a journey to figure out what really happened to Heather, Mike and Josh. The film features a group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James’ sister (Heather) who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
Check out the NEW trailer below that promises a faster pace and jump scares. The hunt for Blair Witch begins again September 16th, 2016.
