Ghostbusters: Old School vs New School Ghosts

TITANIC GHOST vs ROARING 20’S GHOSTS

In the original film we get news that the Titanic has just arrived. Say what!? Ghosts from the sunken ship pull up to the bay and start to unload. But it’s not just the ghosts that have arrived, it’s the entire boat! A Ghost Ship! Holy Ship!

Roaring 20’s Ghosts – 2016

While I don’t know the exact context behind the new roaring 20’s ghosts that appear in the reboot trailer I will take rust and grime over a polished look and feel any day. These ghosts don’t look bad at all. I like the almost day of the dead makeup we see on their cheeks to expose their teeth and jawline but for me the Titanic ghosts still edge them out!

Old school wins!

STAY PUFT vs ROWAN

The beloved Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is the second most iconic ghost/character in the Ghostbusters franchise outside of Slimer. He can NEVER be replaced as the oversized lovable, Godzilla like killing machine that explodes into a white pile of delicious goo.

But the reboot tries to serve up a new original oversized villain in Rowan. The motivation? From the Ghostbuster’s logo itself (and the cartoon) The brand is literally coming to life.

I can’t blame them for trying to introduce something new and not just retreading the old stuff. But I am NOT a fan of the art direction of this giant pile of ectoplasm.

Old school wins!
