We Finally Know The Basic Plot To Jordan Peele’s Upcoming ‘Us’

Film secrecy is a weird and nebulous field. So many productions have several people on staff to either run interference or potentially leak false information to throw reporters off the scent of what’s real and what isn’t. At the same time some pictures just stay very quiet, playing their cards close to the chest, in general. That’s largely been the case with Jordan Peele’s new film, Us. A project most know barely anything about. Now, thanks to /Film, we have an inkling of an idea what’s going on,

The synopsis itself appears intentionally vague, as apparently it’s what’s being used on test screening invite forms. Yet, we’re not going to really complain and any new news about this production is welcome, at this point. Here’s how the description reads:

“A mother (Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o from Black Panther, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and 12 Years a Slave) and a father (Winston Duke from Black Panther) take their kids to their beach house expecting to unplug and unwind with friends (including Emmy winner Elizabeth Moss from TV series The Handmaid’s Tale). But as night descends, their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited.”

Of course, who or what those “visitors” are, will be the main focus of the film. Peele is a savvy director and given the Twilight Zone remake series he has in the work, it isn’t easy to pinpoint where he’ll be taking the plot. Squinting ever so slightly and you can compare the above to both Funny Games and even last year’s mother! Should Peele churn out a film somewhere between those two, it’ll be the talk of next year. That said, the cast alone is exciting in and of itself. Moss is at the height of popularity right now and teaming her with two of Black Panther’s breakout cast members is just delightful.

With Us hitting theaters in March, it feels like we should be getting a trailer soon. That’ll add further insight with the goings on concerning the film.  Though they could release a 30 second clip of nothing and everyone would still check the film out. We’ll keep you updated should anything else surrounding the film come to light soon.
