Did you know a Toy Story 4 was in the works? Neither did we! Yet given Pixar’s predilection for waiting forever between sequels (Incredibles 2 took 14 years), this shouldn’t come as too big a surprise. Maybe it’s because Toy Story 3 left us so emotionally drained, we couldn’t fathom another trip to that well. Either way, the whole gang is back in this teaser and looks like they brought a new “friend” along with them.

Yup, exactly what you’d hope for. Wouldn’t be a Toy Story film if there wasn’t someone, er, “something” loosing their mind, coming to grips with what life has in store for them. If that teaser is any indication, then Forky will most likely deal with things with a level headed approach. Here’s the official synopsis, as that footage is kinda sparse:

“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”

The fourth entry of an franchise can usually be where signs of fatigue begin to show. If any studio can pull it off though, it would be Pixar. With a new story means new talent behind the scenes as well and that’s the case here too. Promoting from within (as they normally do), former story supervisor Josh Cooley steps into the director’s chair. He’ll be working off a script from Stephany Folsom (Star Wars Resistance) and Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever). On the vocal side of things, everyone who could possible return, is back. They’ll be joined by Tony Hale, who brings his exasperated style of comedy to Forky.

What do you think about the prospects of another Toy Story movie? Does it warm your heart? Any of our readers have tiny children out there, who are gashing at the bit for this film? What other Pixar features would you like given the sequel treatment? Sound off in the comments. Toy Story 4 bursts into theaters in June, 2019. In the meantime, here’s the teaser poster, which hopefully doesn’t signify that everyone’s favorite cowboy is hitting the dusty trail, anytime soon.
