The Shannara Chronicles is Coming Back to MTV

Can Wil really save Eretria? And who was behind that mask?

Those questions surrounding The Shannara Chronicles — along with a bunch of others — will finally be answered: MTV announced today that it has renewed the fantasy show for a second season.

“[The Shannara] dream team delivered a beautiful, groundbreaking show with compelling stories and character journeys which brought in new viewers,” said Mina Lefevre, the network’s executive vice president and head of scripted development. “I can’t wait to see what Season 2 brings.”

We can’t either. Last time we checked (that season finale though), Ander and his army of elves had defeated the demons, Allanon beheaded the dreaded Dagda Mor and Amberle indeed saved the Ellcrys — and, in turn, all of The Four Lands. But her heroic effort came with a price: She had to sacrifice her mortal life and literally become the legendary tree, leaving Wil heartbroken and more determined than ever to rescue Eretria (aka the season’s MVP, as voted by fans) from a hungry band of trolls. And Bandon? He’d discovered his dark side and looked poised to become the new Dagda Mor — albeit a much hotter version. Say it isn’t so, Bandon!

The Shannara Chronicles, based on the best-selling novel by Terry Brooks, is executive produced and written by Al Gough and Miles Millar. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Brooks himself and Dan Farah also serve as executive producers. Developed at Sonar Entertainment, the series is co-produced by MTV, Sonar and Farah Films.
