Check Out the Surprising Trailer for Eli Roth’s New Movie

Universal Pictures

Eli Roth’s remake of ‘Death Wish’ didn’t set the world on fire. Its box office numbers have been underwhelming and it  was met with incredibly negative reviews given. It also hasn’t helped that it’s a movie about how a white guy with a gun can solve a lot of problems and that’s just not a story people are looking for in 2018. I haven’t seen the film so I won’t speak to its quality, but I will credit Roth with doing something new and outside his comfort zone. ‘Death with was a noticeable departure from his days as the king of “Torture Porn” and based on the trailer for his new film, ‘The House with a Clock in Its Walls’, he is still trying new things.

The House with a Clock in Its Walls’ is based on a gothic horror/fantasy novel from 1973. Where things get more interesting is when you consider the novel is intended primarily for children. The story will center on a young orphan who moves in with his uncle only to learn he is a Warlock. The film will star Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kyle Maclachlan & Owen Vaccaro. This scheduled release date is September 21, 2018. Check out the trailer below:

I really think this a fun trailer for what looks to be a solid children’s movie. I like how Jack Black is almost overacting his performance because I like my Jack Black playing it as broadly as possible. Cate Blanchett doesn’t a get a ton to do in the trailer, but she’s incredible in everything and I have no doubt she’ll be one of the best parts of this film. I have never been a huge fan of Eli Roth’s directorial work, but this shift to director-for-hire has lead him to broaden his horizons and i’m really excited to see what he can accomplish with a children’s horror film.
