Last week we got a tip from sources close to the sequel that “The Strangers 2” was officially happened. Today a press release sent out from BLOOM confirmed the project. Horror fans have been waiting since 2008 for the follow-up and after years of on again off again talks it appears we finally get a sequel. The atmospheric fear and isloation terror the first film brought to the genre was fantastic and I for one can’t wait to see it brought to a trailer park. Wait, what!? Check out the press release below along with the official synopsis for more details.

PRESS RELEASE:
BLOOM has taken international rights to The Strangers 2, the sequel to the 2008 hit which grossed over $82 million worldwide. Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door, 47 Meters Down) is on board to direct from a script written by Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the original, and Ben Ketai. The Fyzz Facility Pictures’ Wayne Marc Godfrey (The Foreigner, The Survivalist), Robert Jones (Centurion, The Usual Suspects), Mark Lane & James Harris (47 Meters Down, I Am Not A Serial Killer) are producing, in association with Relativity Media. BLOOM will be handling international sales at the European Film Market in Berlin.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS:
The Strangers 2 follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer. Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit. Casting is underway with the US based shoot scheduled for the Summer.

BLOOM Alex Walton said; “I am truly scared every time I think of the original The Strangers movie, it is my favorite horror film of the past 10 years.  The screenplay will immediately satisfy any fan of the original and I’m confident of a growing audience for this genre around the world.“

The Fyzz’s Mark Lane said; “The Strangers redefined the home invasion genre by perfectly combining character and terror in a way that we rarely see. This is a sequel that has been eagerly awaited and we are delighted to deliver it to the fans.”

Johannes Robert’s said; “Working with The Fyzz and Bloom to bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel is incredibly exciting.”

British director Roberts recently teamed with The Fyzz Facility Pictures for coming-of-age drama Hearts which he adapted with writing partner Ernest Riera from Stephen King’s critically acclaimed novella Hearts in Atlantis. Roberts’ previous films include horror film The Other Side of the Door for 20th Century Fox and shark thriller 47 Meters Down starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt which will have a wide release this summer.

Bertino most recently wrote and directed horror drama The Monster for A24, and is currently producing fantasy horror Stephanie for Blumhouse Productions. The Monster made many of our staff’s top ten list for 2016.
