‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2 Finds It’s Spock

The popular CBS All-Access show ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ will be getting a visit from a familiar face. Ethan Peck will be taking on the legendary role of the half vulcan Spock that Leonard Nimoy made famous over 50 years ago. Peck is certainly not a well known name, but he has been involved with television before in a lead role in the short lived ’10 Things I Hate About You’ television reboot. He is also the grandson of hollywood legend Gregory Peck (that has nothing to do with this story, but I found it fascinating).

Alex Kurtzman, Exec. Producer for ‘Star Trek: Discovery‘ spoke of of the casting process for Spock last month at Comic-Con when he announced that the character would be appearing on the show in 2019. At the time he said they wanted “an actor who would, like [Leonard Nimoy & Zachary Quinto], effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning.” The series takes place a decade before the original series so it will be interesting to see what new layers Peck can bring to the character.

Paramount Pictures

I haven’t watched any of ‘Star Trek; Discovery‘ so I am woefully ignorant of how Spock will tie into the series. Although, fans do have their theories. I will say that between this and the announcement of the Captain Picard spin-off we talked about last week, it looks like CBS All-Access is quickly becoming the place to go for all Trek related TV entertainment. And if negotiations keep stalling out at Paramount Pictures, it might be the only place for Trek related content period.
