Alien: Covenant doesn’t hit theaters for another two months, but director Ridley Scott has already stated that he has plans to shoot the follow-up soon. Now, the director has revealed the title of the next installment in the series:
Alien: Awakening.
In a new interview with Fandango, Scott revealed that not only would Awakening be the title of the next film in the long-running sci-fi horror franchise, it’s likely to sit chronologically between 2012’s Prometheus and Covenant.
“There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] Alien,” Scott stated. “It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant. There will be more after this. If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.”
This follows Scott’s earlier comments that he was keen to get going on the next movie. “You’ve got to assume, to a certain extent, success [for Alien: Covenant], and from that you’d better be ready,” he said. “You don’t want a two-year gap. So I’ll be ready to go again next year.”
“If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six,” he added. “I’m not going to close it down again. No way.”
Alien: Covenant hits theaters on May 19 in the US and May 12 in the UK. It stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, and Demian Bichir.
