Last December it was reported that Paramount was moving forward with a script for a new Star Trek film based on an idea from Quentin Tarantino. We’ve since learned that Tarantino’s pitch is being written by Mark L. Smith of ‘The Revenant’. This week we learned about multiple scripts being worked on at the moment for the next Star Trek film. The other two treatments are being written by Simon Pegg & Doug Jung who wrote ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and Patrick McKay & John D. Payne who wrote the initial draft for the third reboot Star Trek film.

This information all comes courtesy of Commander Spock himself, Zachary Quinto. He was speaking to ET Canada and addressed the future of the Star Trek franchise and said,

“I feel like we are in a state of anticipation. All of us are really excited about the idea of working with Quentin on a Trek film, but I know Simon Pegg and Doug Jung, who wrote the last film, are writing a script and there are another set of writers writing a script. So I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

This is all incredibly exciting news. I was a huge fan of ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and the idea of another Pegg/Jung penned Trek movie is interesting, but you can’t help but hope to see Tarantino’s idea brought to life. He’s been one of the best and most celebrated filmmakers in the last 30 years and seeing his take on the USS Enterprise’s contusing mission to boldly go where no one has gone before would be incredibly exciting. If you’re interested in hearing more of Tarantino’s thoughts on Star Trek, check out the clip below from his Nerdist interview from 2015 where he first discussed what he’d like to see happen in a Star Trek film.
