There have long been stories about Jim Carrey’s behavior on the set of ‘Man on the Moon’. Stories about how one actor went so method that he literally enveloped the character he was portraying. There were also stories about how Jim Carrey was acting like an insufferable prick just because he had been cast as a famous insufferable prick, Andy Kaufman. The new documentary ‘Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond‘ coming next month from Netflix looks to present you with footage of all these on-set stories and let you decide.
Was Carrey literally channeling a comedic genius and giving the most impressive performance of his career? Or was he being self indulgent and churlish while calling it method acting because he could? Or perhaps, in true Andy Kaufman fashion, was it a little bit of both? Judge for yourself and watch the trailer below:
The films certainly looks like a fascinating look into his performance. While I may roll my eyes slightly at Carrey saying Andy Kaufman showed up on a beach in California to take over his movie. You also get great scenes of Bob Zmuda, Danny Devito & Milos Forman trying to deal with a Jim Carrey who’s just as difficult as Kaufman used to be. Also we get footage of Tony Clifton, and that will always make my days better.
‘Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond‘ is being released on Netflix on November 17, 2017. The film is directed by Chris Smith and produced by Spike Jonze.
