Bigger, louder and hopefully better in every way. Those are the tenents that most sequels live and die by. They’re also fully on display in this somewhat epic first trailer for Men In Black International. Take a look, before someone wipes it from your mind.
Guns, gadgets, suits and aliens. Just about everything you’d associate with the Men In Black franchise is well on display in the reboot/spin-off. As the title implies, the action moves from the New York branch, jumping across the pond to see how things are handled in London. Rookie Agent M (Tessa Thompson), who casually stumbles upon the organization after 20 years of searching, is teamed up with Agent H (Chris Hemsworth) to solve another mystery that sees the fate of the planet hanging in the balance. Something to be expected at this point. Even if it seems London is constantly doomed to be destroyed in every other film that comes out. Thankfully, the tone here focus on loads of big goofy fun. With a cast that includes Emma Thompson, Liam Neeson, Rebecca Ferguson and Rafe Spall, it’s hard to imagine this not being a winner.
Here’s the official synopsis, because we’re sticklers for consistency round these parts:
“The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.”
If you’re scared the events of past films would be swept under the rug, worry not. Everyone’s favorite worms make an appearance here, as do a couple other aliens species. The biggest Easter egg though is a lavish painting adoring one of the corridors, nodding back to the first picture. Here it is, should you have missed it.
What did you think of the trailer? Is putting Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in suits enough for you to buy a ticket? Hoping for a few other familiar faces (or voices) to make cameos? Who do you think the mole is? Our bets are firmly on Neeson. Simply because that makes the most sense. Though it’s taken a long time to get a new Men In Black film, we couldn’t be more excited with how this looks. However, it would’ve been nice to get that MIB/21 Jump Street crossover. Nonetheless, we’re sure F. Gary Gary has something bombastically entertaining cooked up for next summer. We’ll find out when Men In Black International invades theaters on June 14, 2019.
