A Veil of Mystery Hangs Over This ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Super Bowl TV Spot

It started out as something of a joke. An unexpected sequel to a movie no one actually asked for. One to a film that was the partial personification of the 80’s. For both the good and bad. Now, thanks to the continued star power of Tom Cruise and his Oblivion director, Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick is coming our way, very soon. By the looks.of this super bowl trailer, Maverick will have a lot to deal with.

Strange to go this route with something related to Top Gun. Melodrama would seem like the name of the game, as opposed to the secrecy employed here. Who is being court-martialed? Who’s father new Maverick. The majority of this is likely just misdirect, but the labored breathing of Maverick (Tom Cruise) says things are a bit hairy.

What do you make of this footage? Are you excited to see what crazy aviation stunts Cruise is willing to get up to this time? Do you prefer his output with Kosinski or Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher, M:I – Rogue Nation & Fallout)? Either way, it’s easy to assume a ton of people will flock to Top Gun: Maverick, when it lands in theaters this summer, on June 26, 2020.
