Protagonist Light (Nat Wolff) is guided on his spiral into tyranny and mayhem by the god of death, Ryuk. Brought to life in Netflix’s adaptation by Willem Dafoe, the wily master of the Death Note takes a much more sinister turn than fans of the franchise may be used to. He absolutely relishes what he’s convincing Light to do. With so much focus on Dafoe’s otherworldly creature, it looks like Netflix is betting viewers will too.
