John Boyega Suits Up in Trailer for ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’

Universal

Pacific Rim came out in 2013 to solid reviews and an awesome world wide box office. It has it’s fans and it’s detractors. But one thing is for sure, Guillermo del Toro’s “Giant Robots fighting Kaiju Monsters” has to be the greatest premise for a movie ever. Four years later, the Jaeger program is back with The Last Jedi’s John Boyega taking center stage. Check out the trailer below:

Boyega will star as Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s General Pentecost from the first Pacific Rim. Also returning from the first film are Charlie Day, Burn Gorman & Rinko Kikuchi. Charlie Hunnam will not be returning, but i’m assuming will be replaced in spirit by Scott Eastwood. I’ve always said, “if you can’t get Hunnam, you get Clint’s kid.”

I thought the first Pacific Rim was a solid sci-fi actioner, but it should always be said that the ‘Battle of Hong Kong’ sequence is sublime. This new trailer looks like a fun time though and wow is Boyega channeling Elba with his performance. I think we all know this won’t be fine art, or even an action masterpiece. But then again, there will be giant robots punching kaijus in the face, where’s bad?

Pacific Rim: Uprising will open on March 23, 2018 . The film stars John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Charlie Day, Burn Gorman & Rinko Kikuchi. It will be Directed by Steven S. DeKnight, with a screenplay by DeKnight, Kira Snyder, Emily Carmichael & T.S. Nowlin. Guillermo del Toro will still produce.
