The marketing campaign is well underway for Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to the Ridley Scott sci-fi classic ‘Blade Runner’; and while there have been some concerning reports regarding the length of this movie, overall you can’t help but feel the excitement for it growing. We have gotten a few gorgeous trailers so far (Thank you for your service, Mr. Deakins), and now we have something even more intriguing. Warner Bros has released the first of 3 short films that will serve as a kind connective tissue that will lead us from the original ‘Blade Runner’ all the way to Villeneuve’s ‘Blade Runner: 2049’.
The short film was directed by Luke Scott, director of ‘Morgan’ and son of Ridley Scott, is called ‘Blade Runner 2036: Nexus Dawn’. The short introduces us to Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace as he attempts to convince the powers that be to end the prohibition on replicant manufacturing as he has created the line of Nexus 9, a perfected race of replicants.

The short looks just as pretty as you’d hope with that wonderful mix of science fiction wonder and philosophical babble that only a Blade Runner film can deliver. ‘Blade Runner: 2049’ comes out October 6, 2017.
