Coming of age stories are a dime a dozen. They’ve always been that way. Growing up is weird and all anyone can do is find a way to cope, as best they can. So, when a movie or TV series taps into that vein, people take notice. Even more so when you go and add burgeoning superpowers to the mix. Confused? Well, you won’t be once you check out this trailer for Netflix’s I Am Not Okay With This.

And just like the mundanity and malaise that sets in during high school, here’s the official synopsis:

“I Am Not Okay With This is an irreverent origin story that follows a teenage girl who’s navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, all while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and mysterious superpowers just beginning to awaken deep within her. From director/EP of The End of the F***ing World Jonathan Entwistle and the producers of Stranger Things comes a new series based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel.”

Something like this only comes together if you have a good cast. Pairing Sophia Lillis (who is on a major roll with Gretel & Hansel) and Wyatt Oleff (still playing a Stanley) from the IT films is a good start. Familiarity in the person you’re bouncing off of is Paramount. It’ll be interesting to see exactly how the superpowers come into play. Specially since the 2nd half of the trailer focuses on that aspect. At only 8 episodes long, they won’t have much time to waste. I Am Not Okay With this drops exclusively onto Netflix, on February 26. Don’t act like you’re not going to binge it all at once.  Until then, enjoy this official poster for the show.
