Godzilla: Monster Planet Trailer Has Arrived

Netflix

Last year Toho announced they would be releasing their first ever anime film about their great kaiju, Godzilla. The film is being animated by Polygon Pictures, the studio who was responsible for this years awesome and way underseen Netflix anime ‘Blame!’. This latest Godzilla adventure is about a crew returning to earth after discovering what they hoped would be their new planet is uninhabitable. Upon return, they find that the earth is now overrun with giant monsters and Godzilla is king of them all. Earlier this week we finally got a peek at the trailer for Godzilla: Monster Planet’ (or Planet of Monsters depending on what area of the internet you check).

That. Was. Awesome. There’s so much to love and get excited for in this trailer. I love the cel-shaded 3D style of the animation that polygon produces. I love the plot about humans returning to an earth that no longer belongs to them and how will they overcome that. I love that apparently this is the first film in a planned trilogy of Godzilla animes. I also love that Netflix bought the international rights to this, so it’s just a matter of time before Godzilla, in all his glory, pops up on my “suggested for you” queue.

‘Godzilla: Monster Planet’ will be released released theatrically in Japan on November 17, 2017 and come to Netflix sometime after that. The film is directed by ‘Knights of Sidonia’s’ Kobun Shizuno along with Hiroyuki Seshita. The screenplay is by ‘Psycho-Pass’ creator Gen Urbochi. It will star the voice talent of Mamoru Miyano, Takahiro Sakurai, Kana Hanazawa, Yūki Kaji & Tomokazu Sugita.
