Get Your First Look at ‘True Detective’ Season 3

The first season of ‘True Detective‘ is rightly considered one of the great television shows in history. The second is wrongly perceived as being an unwatchable misstep. I would never make the argument that it’s as good as the first season, but there are great things about it. Now we have the first look at the newest season of HBO‘s procedural crime drama. The story will revolve around Mahershala Ali investigating a child abduction over three different time periods. Check out the trailer for this totally unique and original story below:

First things first, this looks like we’re just running the first season back. It’s in the middle of the country. It takes place over multiple decades. The inciting crime looks to be similar. It almost looks like series creator Nic Pizzolatto is throwing up his hands and saying “Fine. I’ll just do it your way” to the internet. On one hand this is all disappointing, because it’s nice to see creators creating for themselves. Conversely True Detective Season 1 is the peak of peak television. So, if you’re going to copy; Copy the best.

It’s hard to be down on the new season when it will feature Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room) directing two episodes. Also the news that actual genius and likely degenerate gambler David Milch is also co-writing an episode with Pizzolatto sounds like it could be the finest hour of television. I definitely hoped for something different, but show still looks like ‘True Detective‘ and that’s a good thing. The season will premiere in early 2019 and stars Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher, Scoot Mcnairy & Stephen Dorff.
