After a few years of silence, and some legal shenanigans we’ll get into, George Miller is looking to get back into the world of film directing. Deadline is reporting that the Mad Max maestro has finished work on a new script. The title? Three Thousand Years Of Longing. With a title like that, you can’t help but be curious wondering what it’s all about. Turns out a few big name actors felt the same.

Both Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton are as of now attached to the project. Not bad, given the world’s only know about it for a day. The plot itself is under tight secrecy, though a couple small details have spilled out. Deadline states that “the movie is said to be unlike anything the filmmaker has done before but…it is epic in scope.” That much can be gleaned by the title. It goes on to mention it’ll also “revolve around a genie.” Admittedly, this is unexpected, but shows that Miller is willing to make something out there. With his body of work, that could mean anything, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

It’s good in general to see George Miller wanting to get back in the saddle, in general. Saying Mad Max Fury Road took the world by storm is an understatement. Few action films attain the kind of critical, financial and awards success it was met with. Recently he’s been embroiled in a legal spat with Warner Bros, concerning unpaid bonuses tied to Fury Road. It had caused a rift between the company and the director, but there’s still a slight chance he’ll return to make they sequels he’s been mapping out for a bit.

It’s hard to imagine two more in demand actors, at the moment, than the ones this film has snagged. Swinton can be seen in Suspiria next week, with three films next year. Elba will pop up in Hobbs & Shaw next summer, while also co-starring in Cats. Three Thousand Years Of Longing is set to hit the American Film Market next week, where it’s sure to drum up a lot of attention. We’ll update you the second more news comes to light.
