Following the insanely large success of the Fast and the Furious franchise – specifically the stratospheric trajectory since the addition of Dwayne Johnson – the studio announced that moviegoers will get what they have clamored for in an unlikely spin-off.
Johnson’s addition midway through the franchise, along with Statham shortly thereafter, sparked a “Fast Fervor” (ehh…maybe too much?) with fans of the franchise based on their shared onscreen chemistry.
While no deals have been made with the actors, there lies very little doubt that Luke Hobbs (Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Statham) would miss the opportunity to expand on the mythos and draw even more fans into the fold.
Chris Morgan, the man behind the scripts since Tokyo Drift, will helm the writing duties that will once again put Hobbs and Shaw onscreen together again.
While specific script details aren’t available at the writing of this article, Universal did push Fast 9 back to 2020 – seemingly to bring back super-action director Justin Lin.
Slated for release on July 26,2019 the untitled Hobbs & Shaw team-up will no doubt rake in boatloads of cash for the studio and further propel the franchise forward.
So what do you think? Are you ready to ride shotgun with Johnson and Statham or would you prefer your Fast movies a little less Furious? Sound off in the comments.
