Sad news today for those of us who love Ian Fleming Novels almost as much as we love ‘Trainspotting’. Danny Boyle is no longer directing the latest James Bond film. The announcement comes from twitter and said “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig today announced that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25″.

The production will continue forward as they search for a new director before production begins in December 2018. No word yet on whether frequent Danny Boyle collaborator John Hodge will still be doing a polish on the script. Should Hodge be leaving the project the primary writer’s would once again be Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who have written or co-written the other Daniel Craig films. It’s rumored that the untitled film will be Craig’s last as James Bond.

Some people felt Boyle was a terrible choice to head the latest Bond adventure. I personally think it was an inspired and perfect choice. Boyle’s kinetic filmmaking mixed with a super spy story is just what the franchise needed after ‘Spectre’. One lesson that could be taken from that film is that there can, in fact, be too many cooks. I wish more big movies should look to the Lucasfilm/Rian Johnson marriage and just allow a filmmaker to make his film. You may be saying “What if this is Danny Boyle’s fault?” The man made ‘Trainspotting’, ‘Sunshine’ & ‘Steve Jobs’. Trust me, it’s not his fault.
