Chris Hemsworth To Star In The Netflix Original Movie ‘Dhaka’

Marvel Studios

The God of Thunder is set to appear in a Netflix original film, just not as The God of Thunder.

Netflix has announced that Chris Hemsworth will star in Dhaka, a kidnap indie drama that will be filmed in India and Thailand. Hemsworth’s starring role is not the only Marvel connection, the movie is frankly full of them. Dhaka is written by Joe Russo, one of the Russo brothers, the directing team behind Captain America: Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and both Infinity War films.

AGBO, the studio partnering with Netflix on Dhaka, was founded by the Russo Brothers to facilitate their post-Marvel ambitions. The Hemsworth casting is not the only newsworthy action AGBO has made recently.

The most intriguing storyline is actually the director hired to the project, Sam Hargrave. Hargrave was the stunt double for Chris Evans in Winter Soldier, promoted to fight and stunt coordinator in Civil War, and promoted again to direct second units in Infinity War. Dhaka will be Hargrave’s directorial debut, as he continues to seize the opportunity that the Russo brothers have created.

Handing a movie to a first time director always involves a level of risk, but David Leitch is the modern example of how a stunt coordinator can blossom as a director. Having The God of Thunder as the lead does not hurt Dhaka’s potential either.
