It’s been decided: Oscar Winner Alicia Vikander will star in the upcoming “Tomb Raider” movie. Vikander, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Danish Girl”, will play Lara Croft in the reboot of the popular film and video game franchise.
Earlier this year, it was believed that Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame would portray the athletic archaeologist. It now seems that, according to Variety, Vikander was always the favorite. She’ll be stepping into a role previously filled by actress Angelina Jolie in the 2001 and 2003 films.
The upcoming movie, which has been in development since 2013, will draw from the recent games, “Tomb Raider” and “Rise of the Tomb Raider”. Compared to the original franchise, this reboot features a younger Lara with more character depth.
Roar Uthaug will be directing the Warner Bros, MGM, and GK Film co-production.
